Your questions, answered

Wallpaper FAQs: Your Questions Answered

These wallpaper FAQs cover what you might want to know before ordering from Summer Skye Studio, from choosing the right substrate to ordering samples and requesting a custom colour. If your question isn't here, just ask.

General

Can I order a sample before committing?

Yes, and I'd always recommend it. Colours read differently depending on your room's light, aspect, and existing décor, and what looks perfect on screen doesn't always translate the same way on the wall.

I'd always recommend ordering a sample before committing to full rolls, particularly because every order is printed specifically for you. We can't accept returns simply because the colour isn't quite what you expected once it's up, so a sample is genuinely the best way to make sure you're confident before you order.

Not sure which design or colour is right for your space?

Just ask. I know my patterns inside out, and I'm happy to help you narrow things down. Send me a message with your ideas, your room colours, or a photo of your space and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction.

Who's on the other end of this?

Just me, Sara. I design every pattern here and I handle all customer messages personally. If you've got a question, a colour query, or you're just not sure where to start, drop me a message via the contact page or email info@summerskyestudio.com. I aim to reply within 2-3 business days.

Wallpaper

What wallpaper types do you offer?

All designs are available in three substrates:

Peel & Stick - Self-adhesive, no paste needed. Made from 100% woven polyester fabric with a soft, fabric-like finish. Repositionable for up to 24 hours after hanging and removes cleanly in one piece. A good choice for renters, first-timers, and anyone who wants flexibility without sacrificing finish.

Traditional (Non-Pasted) - A paste-the-wall option on non-woven fabric with a smooth matte finish. A good choice for full room makeovers and anyone wanting a finish that's built to stay.

Pre-Pasted - The adhesive is already on the paper, activated with a damp roller or sponge. No separate paste needed. Has a fine embossed texture and a premium matte feel. The middle ground between traditional and peel and stick.

All three are PVC-free, GreenGuard certified, and printed with UV inks.

Not sure which suits your project? Feel free to reach out.

Are your wallpapers suitable for rental properties?

Peel & Stick is the one to go for if you're renting. It's designed to remove in one piece without marking walls, provided they're sound, fully cured, and properly primed or painted. On freshly painted or poorly bonded walls, any removable wallpaper can lift paint, so it's always worth a small patch test first.

Traditional and pre-pasted are permanent options and not suitable for rentals.

Can I use your wallpaper in bathrooms or kitchens?

Peel & Stick and Pre-Pasted are both suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, and moderately humid spaces. Both are made from woven fabric rather than paper, which makes them less prone to shrinkage in humid environments. Traditional is not recommended for these spaces as it's paper-based and can shrink or warp with moisture.

For all types, avoid direct water contact. Don't apply wallpaper inside a shower or directly next to a bath or sink where it'll get regularly splashed. Good ventilation helps too, especially in smaller bathrooms and kitchens.

If you're unsure whether your space is suitable, just ask. A sample is also a good way to test adhesion on your specific wall before committing to a full order.

Can I customise the colour or scale?

Yes. Simple colour adjustments and standard scale changes are free. More complex requests, like significant design edits or custom motif work, may involve a small fee. Visit the customisation page for details, or just send me a message and I'll let you know what's possible.

Will your wallpaper work on my walls?

All three substrates work best on smooth, clean, painted or primed walls. Heavily textured surfaces, bare plaster, brick, or stucco aren't suitable as the wallpaper won't adhere properly and the texture will show through.

If your walls have a light texture, it's worth ordering a sample first and doing a small patch test before committing to a full order. That's the most reliable way to check compatibility in your specific space.

If you're unsure, just send me a message with some details or a photo and I'll give you an honest answer.

Will removing the wallpaper damage my walls?

In most cases, no. Peel and stick and pre-pasted are both designed to come away cleanly when the wall underneath is sound and well prepared.

The thing to know is that clean removal always depends on the wall, not just the wallpaper. On walls that are freshly painted, damp, dusty, or where the existing paint is weak or poorly bonded, any removable wallpaper can lift paint or surface layers when it comes off. That's down to the wall's condition rather than a fault with the paper.

If your walls are newly painted, give them a few weeks to fully cure first. And if you're papering a large or high-traffic area, or you're at all unsure, a professional installer is always worth considering. A small patch test is the easiest way to check how your specific wall behaves before you commit.

Customisation

Can I customise a design?

Yes. Simple colour adjustments and standard scale changes are free. More complex requests, like significant design edits or custom motif work, may involve a small fee. I'll always be upfront about any costs before starting, and you'll receive a digital preview to approve before anything goes to print.

Just send me a message or fill out the customisation request form and I'll let you know what's possible.

How do I request a customisation?

Fill out the customisation request form here on the website, or send me a message directly.

Include the design you're interested in, your preferred colour (a HEX code, paint brand and shade, or an inspiration photo all work), and whether you'd like the pattern larger, smaller, or as shown.

I'll come back to you with a preview and confirm any costs if relevant.

How long does customisation take?

Simple colour or scale adjustments usually take 1-3 working days once I have everything I need from you. The clearer your brief, the faster it goes. A HEX code or specific paint shade gets you a preview much quicker than "something warm but not too orange."

More complex requests may take longer, and I'll always confirm the timeline with you before starting.

Will I see a preview before my order is printed?

Yes, always. I'll send you a digital preview to approve before anything goes to print. Nothing is produced until you're happy with it.

Do you charge for customisation?

Simple colour adjustments and standard scale changes are free. More complex requests, such as significant design edits or custom motif work, may involve a small fee. I'll always confirm any costs with you before starting, so there are no surprises.

Shipping & Orders

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, and shipping is free worldwide on all wallpaper orders.

Where do your products ship from?

All wallpapers are printed and shipped from the EU.

Will I have to pay customs or import fees?

For customers in the USA, UK, EU, and Canada, all import taxes and duties are included in your order. No extra charges on delivery.

For other countries, local customs or import fees may apply. Worth checking your country's regulations before ordering. If you're unsure, just ask.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Production usually takes 1 to 3 business days.

If you've requested a colour or scale change, production begins once you've approved the preview, so allow extra time for that process.

Estimated delivery after production: USA and Canada 2-3 business days, UK and EU 1-2 business days, rest of the world 3-5 business days.

You'll receive a tracking link as soon as your order ships.

Returns & Cancellations

Can I return or exchange my order?

If your order arrives damaged or with a printing fault, it will be replaced. Get in touch within 7 days of delivery with photos and your order number and I'll get it sorted.

Because every order is printed specifically for you, returns aren't accepted simply because you've changed your mind. This is why ordering a sample first is always worth it.

Can I cancel my order?

Orders can be cancelled within 3 hours of purchase on weekdays, before production begins. After that, your order will already be in production and can't be cancelled. To cancel, get in touch as quickly as possible with your order number.

Eco-Friendly & Sustainability

Are your wallpapers eco-friendly?

Yes. All wallpapers are PVC-free and printed with GreenGuard certified UV inks, which are safe for homes, nurseries, and sensitive environments. The traditional non-pasted wallpaper uses FSC certified non-woven material, meaning the raw materials come from responsibly managed sources.

What makes your process sustainable?

Every order is printed on demand, nothing is made until you order it. That means no overproduction, no waste sitting in a warehouse.

Are your inks safe for children and pets?

Yes. All wallpapers are printed with GreenGuard certified inks that meet strict safety standards. They're non-toxic and safe for nurseries, children's rooms, and homes with pets.

Can the wallpaper be recycled?

All three substrates, peel and stick, traditional, and pre-pasted, are recyclable, though we'd always recommend checking your local recycling guidelines as facilities vary.

The peel and stick liner can be recycled like paper.
