Green Wallpaper Living Room Ideas for 2027
Green wallpaper living room ideas are a good place to start for 2027, because four of the big paint brands have picked a green as their colour of the year. Those four are Soulful Sage from Dulux, Celery from Sherwin-Williams, Grounded from Behr and Webster Green from Benjamin Moore.
If you've been scrolling room photos or paint swatches lately, you'll have noticed it. A small square on a paint card is one thing. Picturing it across four walls, next to your sofa, your floor and your lamps, is another. Add pattern and the choices multiply.
This is my guide to how each shade feels on a wall, which patterns suit it, and how I'd put the room together. I'm a pattern designer, not an interior designer, so I come at it from pattern and colour, with a few things I'd do in my own home.
If you'd like to see the shades first, browse the green wallpaper collection. The full paint line-up is in my colour of the year 2027 guide.

Why Does Green Work So Well in a Living Room?
Green reads as nature, and that suits a room you want to unwind in. Leaves, hedgerows, moss, a garden through the window: our eyes know it well.
It's easy to live with, too. Muted greens like sage and soft olive behave like neutrals. They sit happily with warm wood, linen, leather and brass, and they welcome a touch of terracotta or dusty pink.
The green family also covers a lot of ground. A pale, airy green keeps a room light and quiet. A deep forest green wraps around you and comes into its own once the lamps are on. Same colour family, two very different rooms.
How Do You Choose the Right Shade of Green?
Start with how you want the room to feel at eight o'clock in the evening. That's when most of us use the living room, and lamplight shifts a green quite a bit.
- Light greens bring a gentle, open calm.
- Mid-tone greens feel the most grounded and leafy.
- Dark greens bring a moody, enveloping depth.
Pattern comes second. Green and plants go together, so it's easy to assume green wallpaper means botanicals. Green carries stripes, geometrics, arches, checks and polka dots beautifully too. Choose the depth of green first, then a pattern that suits the style of your home.
Celery and Soft Green Wallpaper for a Calm Living Room
Celery is a pale, yellowy green: fresh, gentle and warm. Sherwin-Williams named it after a vegetable, which is one of the nicer things to come out of a salad.
It suits a minimal, uncluttered living room with pale wood, linen and soft daylight, and it settles into Japandi and Scandinavian rooms very easily. My ginkgo leaf, Japandi botanical, faux grasscloth and sacred geometric designs all come in a green close to this. For more on that look, see my Japandi wallpaper ideas.
Sage Green Wallpaper for a Light, Muted Living Room
Dulux describes Soulful Sage as soft and silvery. It's the kind of quiet, muted green I'm drawn to myself.
It works across a wide range of patterns, so you can choose the mood. Arches give a clean, modern shape. Gingham brings a relaxed country feel. A sage botanical adds gentle movement to the wall and lets your artwork and furniture shine. It also suits geometrics well.
Olive and Forest Green Wallpaper for a Traditional Living Room
Grounded is a mossy olive with brown undertones, and it's the darkest of the four. It deepens as the light drops, so it feels fresh by day and more enclosing in the evening.
That depth suits a traditional living room: dark wood, woven textiles, books on every shelf. If you'd like a deep green with texture, my faux grasscloth in green does it quietly. For a more formal, heritage feel, my Victorian damask comes in a green that's a little less grey than Grounded.
Mid-Tone Green Wallpaper for a Retro Living Room
Webster Green sits between blue and yellow, with less grey in it than the other three. It's the most openly green of the group, and Benjamin Moore calls it the quintessential shade of green.
To me it has a retro feel. It suits mid-century rooms, with teak sideboards, brass lamps and clean 1960s lines. A tile-effect or geometric pattern in this green gives you a lively feature wall.
What Furniture Goes with Green Wallpaper?
This is simply what I'd do in my own home. My rule is to balance the energy.
If the wallpaper is busy, like a flowing botanical or a damask, I keep the larger furniture calm and fairly neutral, and bring the pattern back in through the cushions: a stripe, a geometric, even polka dots.
If the wallpaper is simple, like a stripe, a geometric or a faux grasscloth, I go bolder with the cushions and upholstery.
Materials and colours that sit well with green:
- Warm wood: oak, teak and walnut.
- Textured neutrals: linen, bouclé and soft wool.
- Warm metals: brushed brass and antique gold.
- Earth tones: terracotta, ochre and warm clay.
- Dusty pink: a classic cottage garden pairing, like roses against leaves.
Should You Wallpaper the Whole Living Room or One Wall?
It depends on the size of the room, the shade you've chosen and what else is in it.
A lighter green can take a full wrap, even in a smaller room. If you have panelling or wainscoting, wallpapering the wall above it works well. If you'd like to keep some wall free for photo frames, one or two accent walls do the job.
Bigger rooms can carry bolder, larger patterns. My guide to choosing the right pattern scale will help you pick a size for your room.
Then think about the mood. Do you want a moody, decadent room for the evenings, or a calm, grounded one? That answer usually points you to the shade.
If you're papering the whole room, order all your rolls together. They'll come from the same production run, which keeps the colour consistent.
Can You Match Green Wallpaper to Your Paint or Cabinets?
Quite often, yes. People ask me to colour match all the time. One customer had cabinets with green fronts and wanted the walls to match.
It's free. You send me the colour (a paint code, a hex code or a photo), I recolour the design and send you a digital preview, and we adjust it until you're happy. I'll get as close as I can to your colour. Once you like the preview, you can order a sample to see it in your own light. There's more on how it works in What Is Custom Wallpaper?
Why Order a Green Wallpaper Sample First?
Green shifts a lot between daylight and lamplight. A shade that looks calm and silvery in the morning can look deeper and warmer once the lamps are on. Screens are backlit, so no screen can show you exactly how a colour will look in your room. The printing is good, and you still won't get an exact match on a screen.
Every design comes as a sample (30 x 20 inches), on the wallpaper type you're considering: traditional (non-pasted), pre-pasted or peel & stick.
Stick it to your wall with painter's tape and live with it for 24 hours. Look at it with your morning tea, in the afternoon, and in the evening with the lamps on. My free guide, Buy Wallpaper with Confidence, walks you through the whole test.
