Retro Square Wallpaper: Bold, Colourful 1950s Design

Retro Square Wallpaper

This is a pattern that plays a little trick on the eye. Look one way and this retro square wallpaper is a grid of neat squares; look again and each one is four curved leaves opening into a flower. Either way, it's got the confident, colourful energy of 1950s and 60s design.

Built on a clean, straight repeat so the pattern holds its rhythm across a whole wall, this retro square wallpaper has a soft textured overlay up close, which takes the edge off the graphic shapes and stops it feeling flat or hard.

Where this retro square wallpaper works

It's a bold, graphic pattern, so it's at its best where it can be the main event: a single feature wall, a kitchen backsplash, or a bathroom, all of which are having a real moment for retro geometrics right now. It suits mid-century, eclectic and retro-leaning rooms, and depending on the colourway it can lean warm and vintage or cool and contemporary.

You can wrap a whole room in this retro square wallpaper if you're feeling brave, but one wall is usually plenty, it does a lot of talking. Whether you want a proper 1950s throwback or just a hint of retro in a modern space, the six colourways give you room to play.

Colourways

Six colourways, from proper retro throwbacks to cooler, modern takes:

Plum and Green

Muted purple with avocado green, retro in spirit without the fancy dress. One of 2026's trending pairings, at home in an eclectic living room or a bathroom that wants depth and character.

Yellow and Green

Mustard yellow and forest green, the combination most tied to mid-century design. Bold as a feature wall, calm enough to wrap a room. Made for a retro kitchen or dining space.

Yellow and Brown

Warm mustard and rich brown, a classic 1950s palette, grounding and earthy. Suits a retro kitchen or a warm living room that leans into the era without apology.

Brown and Terracotta

Dark warm brown with terracotta and tan, a moodier take on the retro palette. At home in rustic contemporary and boho-leaning rooms.

Blue and Red

Slate blue and coral red, the liveliest of the six, graphic and full of energy. A strong pick for a home office, a cloakroom, or anywhere you want the pattern to shout a little.

Blue and Teal

Deep teal with a softer sage, the coolest and most contemporary colourway. Leans coastal and Japandi, lovely in a calm, modern bathroom.

This retro square wallpaper is available in peel and stick, traditional non-pasted, and pre-pasted. All printed to order on PVC-free paper.

Wallpaper Types

Peel & Stick

No paste, no fuss. Made from 100% woven polyester fabric at 275gsm (370gsm including the peel-off liner), it has a soft, fabric-like feel and a matte woven texture. Self-adhesive, repositionable for up to 24 hours after hanging, and removes cleanly in one piece.

A good choice for renters, first-timers, and anyone who wants flexibility without sacrificing finish. Works in bathrooms and moderately humid spaces. Not suitable for heavily textured walls.

PVC-free, GreenGuard certified, printed with UV inks.

Traditional (Non-Pasted)

The classic option for a long-lasting, permanent finish. Non-woven fabric at 190gsm with a smooth matte surface. Apply paste to the wall, hang the panel, trim if needed.

A good choice for full room makeovers and anyone wanting a finish that's built to stay. Best on smooth, dry walls. Not recommended for bathrooms or humid spaces. Not suitable for heavily textured walls.

PVC-free, GreenGuard certified, printed with UV inks.

Pre-Pasted

The middle ground between traditional and peel and stick. You get a permanent finish without the paste. The adhesive is already on the paper, activated with a damp roller or sponge.

At 300gsm it has a fine embossed texture and a premium matte feel. Repositionable while the adhesive is still wet, and suitable for bathrooms and moderately humid spaces. Not suitable for heavily textured walls.

PVC-free, GreenGuard certified, printed with UV inks.

Measure your walls carefully

Colours and pattern flow depend on getting this right, so it's worth taking your time.

• Measure height from skirting board to ceiling, or wherever you want the wallpaper to end.
• Measure the width of each wall you plan to cover.
• Use the tallest height measurement across the whole project.
• Include doors, windows, and architectural features so the pattern runs correctly around them.
• Take several measurements along each wall. Ceilings and floors are often uneven.

Read the full guide here.

Order the right amount

• Multiply your wall area by the coverage per roll to estimate how many you need.
• Choose one roll size and stick with it throughout the project for consistent pattern matching.
• Round up and order all rolls at once. Same batch means the closest colour match across panels.
• Not sure? Just message me and I'll help you work it out.

Order a sample first

Screens and room lighting both affect how colours read. A sample is the simplest way to check colour, scale, and finish in your own space before committing.

Colour customisation

If the design is almost right but the colour isn't quite there, just ask. I can adjust the palette to match your paint colour, existing décor, or anything else you're working with.

Pattern scale

I can also adjust the scale of a pattern to suit your space, larger, smaller, or as shown. For more significant design edits, a small design fee may apply, but I'll always be upfront about that before anything is confirmed.

Either way, you'll receive a digital preview to approve before your order is placed. No surprises.

How to request

Use the customisation request form to send me your colour or scale preferences. I'll come back to you with a preview and confirm any costs if relevant. Once you're happy, we'll get your order processed.
