Coastal is one of those looks that quietly pulls people in. It feels calm, fresh, like a deep breath by the sea. The tricky part comes when you sit down to actually choose a wallpaper, because there's a lot of coastal out there, and it isn't always obvious how to get that feeling onto your own walls in a way that suits your home.

The only thing to get right is the type of wallpaper, because humidity is where people trip up. Not all wallpaper behaves the same in a steamy room: some traditional papers are commercial grade and built for it, vinyl shrugs off moisture, and others, like mine, are made for dry spaces. Match the design to how long you actually want it up. If it's a nursery you know you'll change in a few years, a removable peel & stick and a fun print makes sense, because you're not trying to make it last. Kids' rooms and small spaces are low-risk by design, so they're the perfect place to be a little braver than you'd dare in the living room.

It depends on the wallpaper, not just the room, so always check the spec for humidity suitability. It varies hugely between brands. For my designs, choose pre-pasted or peel & stick for anywhere steamy, and keep them away from direct water. My traditional paper is for dry rooms.

Is wallpaper renter-friendly?

Most come in peel & stick if you need them to be. Easy on, easy off, no drama with the deposit.

Can I change the colours of the wallpaper?
